In 2025, the Centre for Law and Democracy (CLD) launched its Training Programme on the Right to Information for Maldivian Information Officers and Senior Management: Participants’ Manual, in English and Divehi, the language of the Maldives. The nearly 100-page document is designed to build understanding about the standards and practical steps to implement the system set out in the 2014 Maldivian Right to Information Act, one of the top 20 RTI laws globally.
The manual includes a three-day training agenda and is divided into seven main sessions. These sessions look at issues like the importance of RTI and global trends in this area, legal standards for this right under international and Maldivian law, undertaking proactive disclosure, processing requests for information, interpreting exceptions, processing appeals, reporting, promotional activities and monitoring and evaluation.
